Posts: 1 (12/11/08 14:07:12) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hello, I just wanted to ask somebody who knows how to give me the best answer, is it dangerous to practice Witchcraft/Wicca? I have been seriously interested in practicing it. I have read several books on it, mostly by Scott Cunningham, SilverRavenWolf and Dorothy Morrison. I have so far read nothing that scares me. But... I don't know if any of you are familiar with The Discovery Channel "A Haunting" series. I can't remember the specifics of what happened except I believe one woman got into it to better her financial situation, and one man got into it because his house was built on an Indian Burial ground and he tried to call up the spirits of these people. The woman had a bunch of bad spirits attack her while in the circle and the man wound up being possessed. I wish I could remember more details to give you but I can't. All I know is they basically said that you will open doors you can't close and invite evil entities into your life. I know my mother, who was very religious for awhile, would be terrified if she knew that I was drawn to this. Please don't anyone misunderstand me. I feel pulled to this for spiritual reasons. I've always felt pulled to nature and the moon. I have felt pulled to Witchcraft/Wicca in the past but was afraid, and therefore didn't do it. I know about the law of three, I don't want to get into this to "control" other people or to find an easy means to wealth. It's a pull I feel in my heart that I can't explain and my studies of the craft seem to fit what I seek. The Christian faith just doesn't seem to cut it for me. And yes, I do believe in God. I just don't want to get into something that I can't get out of or bring something into my life that I can't control or that could cause any negative effects in my life. It's just watching these shows have made me nervous (yes, I know you can't believe everything you see and hear on television) and I just would like to hear something comforting. If anyone can help me that would be great. I thought I'd better add something to this in case anyone reading this thinks I'm some crackpot out for trouble. I was sick with the flu and tired when I wrote the above. For one thing I'm sure that these people probably brought this trouble upon themselves by what they were doing. You don't go around calling up dead people from ancient Indian burial ground or ANY ground for that matter. I have no interest in necromancy. All in all, I've probably answered my own questions. I'm just concerned that when it comes time to invoke the Watchtowers, Goddess, God, or other deities, could I possibly invoke something else? My concern is could I open a doorway that I can't close that could let something in that is unwanted? That's basically the bottom line of what I would like to know. My belief is that if you want to pursue a religion of any kind you should research it to find out what it entails so you know what you're getting into so you can decide if it's right for you. Also, the Wicca/Witchcraft thing was what I wrote because I'm not sure if some people on this board differentiate between the two. From what I've read some people do, some don't. In other words if you seekings are only positive, then only positive will return to you. If you seek for negative reasons (making someone fall in love with you, tremendous wealth beyond your personal needs, etc) then negative will return to you. I truly believe this. Yes, invoking spirits can open you to negative energies, it can also open you to positive energies. You need to learn how to shield yourself to keep the negative away and only draw the positive before you attempt this. For me Wicca is a religion of good. It means taking care of nature, taking care of myself, taking care of those around me, etc. It is a life style where my life is focused on what is best for all involved and thinking of all of the consequences of my actions before I take action. I too was drawn away from traditional religion because I did not feel I needed to go to church in order to talk to God. I felt that if I wish to talk to the diety then I need only go sit in my own back yard and look at the trees. You need to do what your heart tells you. If it feels wrong, makes you uneasy, or there is just something about it that just doesn't feel right, then don't do it. Light and love, Ladywolf

You said that calling up spirits can open me to negative energies and I need to learn to protect myself from them. What kind of spirits are you talking about? Watchtowers, deities, etc.? And what do I need to do to protect myself from this? I understand you can't tell me private information from your own practices, but I'm just looking for suggestions. I know that only positive workings can be done, but I'd hate to think that even in a positive working, I could still call up something negative. I don't want to bore you with my life story, but I think I need to give you some background information about myself to make you better understand where I'm coming from. All my childhood I had a lot of fears about religion and the devil pounded into my head. Yes, I do know that Wiccans do not believe in the devil. My father became a minister before my mother and him divorced and he abused her and me quite badly. He told her she was devil possesed and that I was devil possessed because I would lay in my crib and laugh for no reason. Leg shaving, television and rock music was all evil. When me and my mom was living alone I had some bad experiences. I would see black rat shaped shadows run out of one wall, across the floor and into the next wall. I was sitting against my bed one night and was talking to my dolls about the devil and how bad he was and something knocked on my back from under the bed. My mother said this was demons and to never talk of such things again. One time I had even looked under the bed for some reason I can't remember, and saw a pair of sickly yellow eyes staring back at me. My father even scared her so badly, she had him baptize me in the bathtub, because even though I was a child, I was full of sin, and if I died I would go straight to hell. I do believe in evil, whatever you want to call it and I have felt it. Twice I can remember feeling it in my bedroom. I was not asleep, drunk, on drugs or thinking bad thoughts. But I felt a palpable evil presence and I did what my mom had always said to do: I rebuked it in the name of Jesus and pleaded the blood of Jesus on it and it went away. I do believe in Jesus. But how does a Wiccan get rid of evil influences? I don't know what you believe in, but I don't want to have to give up Jesus or my views of God. He's my big guy and he's always been there for me. But I don't want to be a Christian either. The Wiccan religion sounds beautiful and my heart says it's right, but my head keeps reminding me of all the religion and devil talk I've had shoved down my throat. And I hate to just give up on this because of fears that may or may not be based on reality. I hope I haven't made you think I'm some crazy person who needs to talk to a shrink or that I think that Wicca is all a joke or a lark or I'm a "dabbler". I hope I'm not crazy and no, I don't think that this is a joke. I take this seriously and I believe this is a true religion. That's why I'm doing a lot of studying and asking questions. I don't know anyone personally that I can turn to. That's why I found this board and wanted to ask someone with knowledge of Wicca. If you can't answer or don't feel comfortable answering my questions I understand. Maybe you could direct me to someone I could talk to. I have found that there are actually ordained Wiccan ministers. Maybe I could email one of them. And to be honest, no I have not yet cast any circles, done any spells or such. I have been talking to God and trying to come to know the Goddess. I have actually felt her presence. It's a soft, feminine, warm, motherly, safe presence. I just want to take this all slowly and let it be an inner evolvement. I don't feel the need to hurry anything. I never in my life thought that I would be pulled toward Wicca. This is a bit of a shock to my system and I'm trying to get to know and understand a belief system that is entirely alien to what I've always been taught. I hope that I'm not trying your patience, I just needed to talk to someone. I do know that whether I decide to practice Wicca or not, I'll always have questions and I'll always be seeking. What is Religion/Spirituality? From my learning, Religion is an effort by human beings to gain an answer to things they do not understand and have no obvious answer to. Originally the belief in God or Gods came from not understanding the forces of nature such as storms, drought, eclipses, heat, cold, life in general. Early humans had no explaination for these events, so God or the Goddess must be responsible for them. As time passed and science evolved the reason why many of these things happened was explained on a physical rather than spiritual level. Fast forward to today. Modern man still can not accept that we die and rot away, the End! That belief would take away our reason for living at all. Thus, we have religion that promises that when our bodies die, our energy will move on. It might move on to the summerland, nirvana, heaven, or in the case of christianity hell. Religion acts as a guide that leads us to live our lives in a way that shows respect for ourselves and those around us, it's a users manual for life that promises that if we follow it then we will be rewarded after death. Is there good in the world- yes! Is there evil in the world- yes! Are their positive energies that enhance our lives-yes! Are their negative energies that cause us fear, pain, etc.-Yes! Are all of these things caused by God/Goddess and the devil?- Not necessarily! Is man responsible for much of the good and evil that exists in the world?- Yes, but not all of it. In your life it appears to me that your father used religion as an acceptable reason to control and abuse you and your mother. This has left you feeling confused and conflicted. You know religion and God's love are suppose to be warm and fuzzy, yet you have been taught that God is harsh and punishing and that he doesn't pay a whole lot of attention to what the Devil does. You have been taught that if you don't live your life exactly so then God's wrath will come down on you, if not now then after you die. So instead of living your life in a way that makes you feel you are a good and loving person, you live your life and dictate your actions based on fear of God's displeasure. Then Wicca and other earth based religions come into your view. These religions say there is no Devil. They say that God/ess is an energy that influences us and the universe, but that God/ess give us some say in the matter. The earth religions say it alright to call on the energies of other beings to help us on our daily path. It is a warm and loving religion where we take responsibility for our actions with the understanding that our actions cause reactions. Like any of the traditional religions, the earth based religions can be used for positive or negative outcome. There are many similiarities between the two religions and you can blend the two if you are most comfortable with that. There is no rule outside of the traditional church that says you have to be either one or the other. Personally, I have blended Christianity, Wicca, Buddism, and other religions to form the basis of my spirital beliefs. I live my life based on treating others the way I want to be treated. I do for others what I would want them to do for me. But, I also look at how my actions will affect all of those around me before I act. I would not give my last dollar to a homeless person if it meant that my child went hungry. Everytime we log on we take the chance of being sucked into the Summerland; never to be heard from again. The most dangerous thing about it is from the "dabblers" that play at it. Think of the area beyond the veil as, oh, rather like a jungle. There are things in jungles that aren't evil, just not overly found of humans. Rather like coming across a tiger in the forest. Anytime you deal with "other entities" being careful is of the utmost importance (unless you just think you are protected or powerful enough that they can not bother you) (crooked grin) There are so, so many other things you can do as you begin rather than dealing with entities (that will come later, much later). Don't rush, protect and always ask for the goddesses blessing before you start. Oh, you said you believe in God (or in my term, "a once-born". Letting go of "God" and the christian beliefs will prove the most dangerous for you as it will fly in the face of all you have learned growing up. Keep at it. If you ever want the straight story, no "soft-soap" and no offense to those have helped you, but contact me. I will say it as it is, as I believe. You see, my grandmother practiced the craft. As did my mother and she tought and passed it on to me. Doesn't make me the best choice for you but I do know a thingy or two. Up front, as many people have already suspected (again, I'm not bloody dead!) I tend to walk the "left-hand path". That path just seems to work the best for me. So not attempting to scare you off (ooooooooooo, a dark witch!" (shiver) I'm and we are all here to assist. Just don't ask us to give you a spell. That is up to you to learn as you go.
